Devon has five official Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty and two beautiful coastlines. Take your pick from family friendly beaches, rolling green countryside, bustling market towns or coastal path walks along the world heritage coastline.
If you're looking for a beach holiday then the south east coast from Salcombe to Exmouth is noted for being one of the sunniest parts of the UK. For those of you who enjoy water sports head for the beaches at Woolacombe, Saunton and Westward Ho to try a spot of surfing. If you're looking for a more relaxing holiday curled up with a good book in a charming cosy cottage, make your way to the pretty coastal town of Lynton or Lynmouth. They fail to disappoint.
North Devon is known for its dramatic cliffs and wide sandy beaches. It's a great place for spending the day on the beach, entertaining the kids by building sandcastles and spotting baby crabs in the rock pools. For an award winning beach, head to Woolacombe and its miles of golden sand, recognised as one of the top ten beaches in the world.
South Devon offers unspoilt countryside, secluded little villages with cosy tearooms offering cream teas and beautiful beaches for relaxing. Need a shopping fix? Head to Totnes, it's one of the oldest towns in England and offers superb high street shopping and unusual local arts and crafts.
If you're looking for a really peaceful escape, visit Exmoor National Park. Its beautiful rolling moorland, wonderful wildlife and deep wooded valleys make for perfect walking holidays.
If you're a fan of all things nautical, then be sure to make a trip to Plymouth Hoe. Not only is it the backdrop for Sir Francis Drake's legendary game of bowls, but it's also one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world.
